The Lowry Landfill Superfund Site is a prescribed containment remedy. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency conducts mandatory five-year reviews to ensure all containment activities are working as designed. The latest five-year review, completed in September 2017, confirmed that the remedy of Operable Units 2, 3, 4, and 5 are protective of human health and the environment. Operable Units 1 and 6 require continued monitoring and a protectiveness determination will be made by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency after further information is obtained. Private non-community drinking water wells north of the site have been monitored and sampled since 2006 for 1,4-dioxane which has been detected north of the Lowry Landfill Site boundary and does not pose a threat to people living in the vicinity.
