It is important to remember that your child is unprotected against a disease until he or she receives the appropriate vaccine. Children do not receive any known benefits from following schedules that delay vaccines. Infants and young children who follow immunization schedules that spread out shots-or leave out shots- are at risk of developing diseases during the time that shots are delayed. Some vaccine-preventable disease are still common in the U.S. (such as pertussis, or whooping cough), and children may be exposed to these diseases during the time they are not protected by vaccines.
