How do I dispose of mercury?
Mercury is a silver-white to gray substance that can be found in thermometers and switches. The best way to dispose of mercury or a mercury containing device is to bring it for treatment to your local household chemical roundup. The safest way to transport your thermometer is to bring it in a ridged container and/or in the original case. It can also be put in a plastic Ziploc bag. More information on mercury can be found in the Mercury Thermometer Fact Sheet. Information to clean up a mercury spill can be found in the Mercury Spill Cleanup Guidance.
