How to dry latex paint on your own:
Latex paint is NOT a hazardous waste, and should be completely dried out and disposed of with your regular household garbage. To dry paint, remove the lid from the paint cans, mix in an absorbent to speed the drying process (such as kitty litter, dirt or sand) and allow the paint to dry completely before disposing with your regular trash pickup. Please DO NOT bring water-based latex paint to the Household Chemical roundups. DO continue to bring oil-based paint for proper disposal. (Info)

Many common products found in your home such as oil-based paint, mercury, gasoline, degreasers, cleaning compounds and garden chemicals may be hazardous and they should be used and disposed of carefully.

Household Chemical Roundups:
These community events help prevent pollution and protect the people handling your garbage. Last year, 4,297 households from Adams and Douglas counties participated in the Roundups, disposing and recycling 233 tons of household hazardous wastes. Arapahoe County provides individual disposal services for their communities.
