Special Infant Project / Core Nursing

Nurse and Baby

The Special Infant Project (SIP) provides public health nursing support to families with babies up to one year of age who are at risk for developmental delays due to problems associated with premature birth or other medical concerns.

A nurse begins making home visits within two weeks of receiving a client's referral. The home visits may continue until the infant's first birthday.

Benefits:
• Monitoring the infant's feeding, growth and development
• Educating families about infant development and behavior
• Promoting positive parent-infant relationships
• Referring families to health care services and other community resources

Eligibility:
The Special Infant Project is offered free-of-charge to qualifying families in Adams, Arapahoe and Douglas Counties. Families can be referred by the hospital, by a medical professional, or they can refer themselves.

To qualify, an infant needs to meet one of the following criteria:
• Premature birth or Neonatal Intensive Care Unit hospitalization
• At-risk for developmental delays

For more information or to refer a client, call 303-341-9370 and ask for a core nurse.
